Description

The impact of the marking of a high-voltage line on the number of wire casualties can be estimated most accurately if a monitoring of high-voltage line victims can be carried out (shortly) before a marking (T0) and (short) after a marking (T+1). Since the Ertvelde EV217 overhead line would eventually be signposted, Elia commissioned the route between pylon 9 and pylon 13 to be monitored prior to the signage.1. This monitoring was carried out in 2015-2016 and 2017-2018. The results of the monitoring prior to demarcation were discussed in detail in previous reports (Verbelen 2017; Verbelen & Swinnen, 2018).
In October 2019, the 'black' line of Ertvelde from pylon 9 to pylon 13 was marked with small bird curls.
This report shows the results of the monitoring carried out under this 'black' line between December 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022, after demarcation. These results are compared with the results obtained when this overhead line was not yet marked.
