Description
The expansion of the transmission and distribution grids is a challenge of the energy transition. Most of this grid expansion in the extra-high-voltage grids will be carried out using overhead lines, and overhead lines will also remain indispensable for grid expansion in the high-voltage grids for the foreseeable future.
The assessment of the environmental impact of new lines is becoming increasingly important in the planning of lines. In the case of overhead lines, the assessment and mitigation of the collision risk for birds is particularly relevant.
This technical note describes the legal framework for nature conservation and the species protection and technical requirements for bird protection markings. These recommendations were drawn up with the aim of speeding up the process while at the same time ensuring that animal ecological concerns, in particular the requirements of European site and species protection, are legally complied with.
"Bird protection markings on HV/EHV overhead lines" of the VDE Network Technology/Network Operation Forum (FNN).
Representatives of grid operators, nature conservation organizations, ministries and authorities, planning offices and manufacturers were involved in this project group.
